| Rio Cinca, Cascada | Asturias | Spain | You can access the Pineta valley by road to the very end, close to the base of the Rio Cinca waterfalls all year, there's a Parador (luxury) hotel at the end of the road so they keep it clean. Once there, in winter you'll probably need snowshoes to go any further (15 minutes from the parking to the base of the falls), crampons & ice axe if you want to go higher up alongside (it's the north side of the Monte perdido). To access Ordesa valley you can probably get as far as the parking lot by car (in summer obligatory busride from Torla), then it's a relative short walk up the valley to Cotatuero (first side valley left walking up). There's a trail running all the way up on the right bank alongside the waterfall. Close to the base (at a shelter) it veers away to the left, then back again. The last few hundred meters involve easy climbing (be careful in case of ice/snow !) and the last 50 meters run over a via ferrata (take along a climbing belt and lifelines to clip into the cable). That takes you right on top of the fall and right next to it - beautiful and impressive hike but I'd only do it if there was no snow or ice - or else with solid alpinism knowledge. To get to Cola de Caballo, just keep on walking all the way to the end of the main valley, big track, you might need snowshoes. | |||||||
